Exercising During Pregnancy: What you Need to Know From Your Rx Fitness 235 Coaches!

Once upon a time, people thought pregnancy meant putting your feet up for nine months. Thankfully, we know better now! At RX Fitness 235, we’re big believers in staying active through every stage of life—including pregnancy.
Staying strong, mobile, and active while growing a tiny human has massive benefits. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just starting your fitness journey, here’s why moving during pregnancy is a game-changer (and what you need to watch out for).
Why Exercise During Pregnancy?
1. More Energy, Better Moods
Pregnancy fatigue is real, but so is the energy boost from movement. Even light workouts can help you feel more energised and balanced. Plus, those feel-good endorphins can help smooth out the emotional rollercoaster.
2. Less Aches and Pains
Back pain, swollen feet, and tight hips are common pregnancy complaints. Strength training, mobility work, and good movement patterns can help ease these issues. Our RX coaches focus on exercises that support your changing body and posture.
3. Prepping for Labour
Labour is different for everyone, but one common theme is that it requires some mental fortitude and can sometimes feel like the ultimate WOD! Staying fit can help with stamina, strength, and recovery. Research suggests regular exercise may even lead to shorter labours (check it out here).
4. Better Sleep
It’s no secret that sleep can get tricky during pregnancy. Regular movement can help mums-to-be fall asleep easier and sleep more soundly. Win-win.
5. Smoother Postpartum Recovery
Staying strong during pregnancy sets you up for an easier recovery after birth. It’s not about “bouncing back”—it’s about feeling strong and supported as you transition into motherhood.
Common Myths (And Why They’re Outdated!)
We hear these myths a lot at RX Fitness 235, so let’s bust a few:
❌ “If you weren’t active before pregnancy, you can’t start now.”
✅ Truth: You can absolutely start! We’ve worked with women brand new to fitness during pregnancy. We’ll ease you in with safe, functional movements that make you feel good.
❌ “Don’t let your heart rate go over 140 bpm.”
✅ Truth: This is un-supported advice. The better guide? The “talk test.” If you can carry on a conversation while working out, you’re in a safe range. ACOG agrees! More info here.
❌ “You shouldn’t work your core while pregnant.”
✅ Truth: Core training is important—but it’s all about how you do it. We focus on breathing, deep core connection, and movements that support your body without stressing it.
Is It Safe?
For most women, yes! In fact, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends regular exercise during pregnancy. If you have a high-risk pregnancy or complications, always chat with your midwife or doctor first.
At RX Fitness 235, our coaches are experienced in tailoring workouts for pregnancy and beyond. We focus on what you need at every stage—whether you’re in your first trimester or nearing the finish line.
